Comstock Cabin: Seasonal retreat becomes “Home”

After years of seasonally enjoying their cabin, our client took the plunge and moved to Comstock, WI as full-time residents. A dramatic shift was needed - to move away from classic Northwoods decor, to make the space reflect the adventurous personality of the family and to ensure the space could support more than just weekend stays. We focused on refreshing decor, lighting, soft goods and furniture for a modern Scandinavian feel, that also reflects some of Comstock’s cool logging history. Click thru to see the “before”.

Bright kitchen remodel, green cabinets and modern lighting.

The Kitchen - A high R.O.I.

Many clients don’t want to start from scratch. The goal is to use what works and refresh what doesn’t. Paint and lighting are the two biggest levers we can pull to make a space feel fresh and more like the homeowners who use it. Here, we refinished the dated honey oak cabinetry in soft sage, and brought in unique modern lighting with a few playful decor pieces. The impact is major! Click thru to see the “before”.

Colorful colonial: historical charm with an eclectic Feel

This St. Paul home had great bones, but a strange layout. The owners decided to move ahead with a full gut and remodel and impressively, the homeowners would be providing the muscle! Good for them! Our design work centered around creating a harmonious floor plan that would better serve their growing family and enhance the most interesting features of the original home - a brick fire place, ironwork and intricate parquet floors.

The “Fancy Bathroom”

For this Highland Park client, it was time for a change, but which direction made the most sense? Cling to the past or tear down and make a fresh start? New Bangs Design is a firm supporter of the #savethepinkbathrooms movement, and it’s hard to beat the personality and quality of 1940s era tile. Working together, we made a plan that honored this unique space in their historical home, while drawing in light, and a bit of polish that’s perfect for guests. They now call this the “Fancy Bathroom”. Click thru to see the “before”.
